Remember the value of a college education.
You wouldn't be in college if you didn't believe in its benefits. Students who graduate with a college degree earn far greater salaries than ones without a diploma. A college diploma is one of the objective standards which future employers rate and compare prospective employees.
Most of your future bosses graduated from a university. They understand the hardships and personal sacrifices you are experiencing. Don't give up!
Stay on top of your personal finances, and maintain a budget.
The cost of a college education will rank as the highest of expenses you will ever pay, until you purchase a home. And, while you might feel overwhelmed (or, at least intimidated) by the expenses, there are excellent books available at your library or bookstore. These books will teach you how to manage your money.
Titles such as: Personal Finance for Dummies, Investing for Dummies, Frugal Living for Dummies and 529 & Other Savings Plans for Dummies are easy to read and provide tips, strategies and checklists to get you started.
Find out what scholarships, grants, work study programs and financial aid packages are available. Just because you're in school, doesn't mean you don't qualify.
Be aware of scams.
Sadly, there are companies and individuals out there who will approach you over the Internet, or promise you their services on a bulletin board on campus. They will offer to "assist" you to receive government grants. First of all, you need to know there is no cost to fill out and apply for government assistance. Do not be duped into paying someone to help you fill out an application.
Note: There ARE a handful of honest, credible firms that charge a fee, yet provide excellent resources. However, you need to understand there are hundreds of websites that are worthless, and will simply take your money.
When college pressures overwhelm you, don't give up.
University life can be stressful to anyone. Different factors arise: you may be living away from home for the first time, struggling to make independent decisions, or advanced courses and workloads have suddenly become a huge burden.
However, you need to remember the bigger picture. What you're experiencing is normal. Remember your goals, and be assured: nothing worthwhile in life was ever achieved easily.
Pace yourself. Take time out for yourself. Set achievable goals. You're going to make it!
Be mindful of your spending habits. Keep a budget.
Do you remember the first thing you ever saved up for as a young person? And, when you were finally able to buy it, there was a deep sense of accomplishment.
